Featured in last year’s impact report and based in the Spark incubator, SeeAI has gone from strength to strength with one of its co-founders winning Innovate UK’s prestigious Women in Innovation Award 2022 including a £50,000 prize.
Innovate UK is the UK’s national innovation agency, supporting business-led innovation in all sectors, technologies and UK regions. The award programme empowers female business leaders to develop commercially successful solutions to major social, environmental, and economic challenges. Each year, the programme identifies women with innovative, high-potential ideas and ambitious plans that will inspire others.

Saile said: “The idea of Fraxpert came to be after being misdiagnosed from an injury and not having access to expert medical care. I wanted to develop a technology that could help reduce health inequalities so that patients can receive the best medical care wherever they are.”

Saile Villegas was raised by a single mother in a town in Mexico, surrounded by cartels and violence. With limited opportunities for women in tech, she came to Britain to pursue a career in computer science and now leads a team developing an Artificial Intelligence that can detect fractures to the same level as expert radiologists. As Director and Co-Founder of Seeai, a Medtech company that develops solutions to solve the shortage of radiologists, Saile’s innovation is Fraxpert, which supports healthcare professionals by detecting hard-to-see fractures.
“I plan to use the Women in Innovation Award to acquire capabilities to commercialise my healthcare innovation.”
“My long-term ambition is for Fraxpert to be an integral part of the routine practice for fracture diagnosis across Europe. I want to become a role model for young women of ethnic minority backgrounds and inspire them to challenge the status quo.”
