Striving for a cleaner future and a more accessible transition to electric vehicles, Dragos Popa, a first-year Computer Science student embarked on a business journey to revolutionise on-street EV charging solutions.
In his last year of A-Level studies, Dragos started thinking of a solution to a problem that his Business Studies teacher had brought up many times. The issue of charging inequality and inaccessibility. As we moved towards a more electrified future, charging an electric vehicle conveniently, at home, while parking on the road remained a major pain point for drivers.

"The support of the Spark team and the donors has been amazing, not only have they helped financially which was a major hurdle for me personally when starting my business but they are also very knowledgeable, always being able to help with any business, legal or technical questions. But what sets Spark apart is the sense of community which has been formed between you, everyone in the team and even other business founders."

The business remained in the idea phase for a long time after first coming up with it as Dragos was unable to get the needed business and technical knowledge required to get the business off the ground. This was until he was introduced to Spark as a new university student. He was thrilled to find out there was a programme which encouraged and enabled students to become more entrepreneurial.
The plan is to design and supply an electric vehicle charge point which can replace traditional kerb stones to achieve a modular, discrete and versatile solution for on-street EV charging. KerbPoint is currently developing their first prototype with hardware finalised and the enclosure of the charge point nearing completion.
